It all began in early 1957, when Yitzhak (Jacky) Sitton, may he rest in peace, at the age of 30, left his job as a bus driver transporting Jewish children to school.
Together with his wife and children, he left his hometown in Cairo, Egypt, immigrated to Israel, and settled in a small shack in the Yavne transit camp.
When Yitzhak received his Israeli driver’s license, he started working as a bus driver for “Egged.”
After about two years, he bought a taxi and became the first taxi driver in Yavne, which was then a small settlement with no means of transportation.
He mostly transported local residents to the hospital and served as a kind of ambulance, “the Yavne ambulance,” when needed.
When his son Mony was discharged from military service as a driver for the Chief Engineering Officer, a role he took after being injured as a fighter in the Armored Corps,
he began helping his father around the clock to ease his workload.
As time went on, Mony’s brothers joined their father as well. They all bought taxis and became known as a “family on wheels.” In the beginning, everyone worked from home. The mother was the dispatcher – she had a two-way radio and used it to assign rides to her husband and their five children.
In 1973, the father and sons officially founded the largest taxi station in Yavne and without a doubt – the most family-oriented in the entire Shfela region.
Around twenty years later, Mony decided it was time for a change – not too far, don’t worry. In 1992, he established a transportation company, starting with a single transit van. After a while came the first bus, and over the years the fleet expanded — now totaling around 200 vehicles.
Over time, Mony’s children joined the journey and took part in managing the business, which became a true family enterprise.
“All of my kids joined because they love it and put their heart into the work,” Mony says proudly. “Each one has their role – one handles operations, another logistics, and my daughter manages the finances.”
Today, over 30 years later, Moni Siton Transportation is considered one of the largest, most respected, and most experienced transport companies in Israel.
